Texas white bass limits

Texas lets you keep 25 white bass a day, and each one must be at least 10 inches long. Four waters on the Louisiana and Oklahoma lines (Caddo Lake, Lake Texoma, Toledo Bend Reservoir and the Sabine River below Toledo Bend) keep the 25-fish bag but drop the length limit. Community Fishing Lakes and several other small listed waters cap you at 5 fish a day of all species together.

Watch for

  • White bass and yellow bass are easy to mix up. Yellow bass have no daily bag and no length limit in Texas, but a white bass under 10 inches is illegal to keep on most waters.
  • Striped and hybrid striped bass (palmetto or sunshine bass) are a separate group: 5 a day in any combination, 18 inches minimum statewide, with their own rules on Lake Texoma and some other reservoirs. Check which fish you have before it goes in the cooler.
  • The possession limit is twice the daily bag. The Lake Texoma possession exception on TPWD's page applies to striped bass, not white bass.
  • Before leaving or approaching any public fresh water, drain the water from your boat and its onboard receptacles, livewells included (a zebra mussel rule).
  • We checked every water body on TPWD's exceptions list (104 pages) on Nov. 3, 2026. Most restate the statewide 25 fish and 10 inches. Exceptions can be added mid-year, so look up your lake before you keep fish.
