Ohio white bass limits

On Ohio's inland public waters you may keep 30 white, striped and hybrid striped bass a day in any mix, but no more than 4 of them over 15 inches. Lake Erie and its listed bays and tributaries have no daily limit and no size limit for these fish. The Ohio River uses the same 30-fish, 4-over-15-inches rule as inland waters, and Pymatuning Lake has no limit.

Watch for

  • The 15-inch count is about the big fish, not a minimum length: small white bass may be kept, but once you have 4 fish over 15 inches, any other fish over 15 inches must go back.
  • Lake Erie's no-limit rule ends at each tributary's listed end point, for example the Detroit Road bridge on the Rocky River or the waterworks dam in Tiffin on the Sandusky River. Upstream of those points the inland 30-fish rule applies.
  • A white bass of 15 inches from Lake Erie or its tributaries, or 14 inches from the Ohio River, inland rivers, lakes or private ponds, qualifies for a Fish Ohio award (apply at fishohio.gov by Dec. 31). The booklet's rod-and-reel state record is 4 lb, from 1983.
  • These figures come from the 2026-27 booklet, which runs to Feb. 28, 2027. We will re-check this page when the 2027-28 booklet is out.
