Texas striped bass limits
Texas lets you keep 5 striped bass and hybrid striped bass a day, in any mix, and each fish must be at least 18 inches. Lake Texoma raises the bag to 10, drops the minimum length, and lets you keep only 2 fish of 20 inches or longer. Toledo Bend and the Sabine River below it also drop the minimum, but only 2 striped bass of 30 inches or longer may be kept.

Size ruleNo minimum length; only 2 striped bass 30 inches or longerBoth water pages title the row 'Striped bass and their Hybrids,' then state the bag and the 30-inch cap for striped bass only. They do not repeat 'hybrid' in that sentence, so this page does not give hybrids their own number there.

Size ruleMinimum length 18 inchesThe Trinity page puts this under 'Striped bass and their Hybrids' and then names striped bass in the sentence. It does not set a separate possession number, so the statewide possession rule (twice the statewide daily bag) is the one that applies.

5 fish per day, all species combined (striped bass and hybrids included)
Size ruleNo minimum length for striped bassCommunity Fishing Lakes are public lakes of 75 acres or less inside a city or a municipal, county or state park. Pole and line only, no more than two poles. Only 1 of the 5 may be a black bass, and it must be 14 inches or longer. The same 5-fish cap, with that black bass rule, is on Canyon Lake Project #6, Como (Fort Worth), Elm, Madisonville, Pilant, Tucker Lake, Deputy Darren Goforth Park Lake, Brushy Creek Lake and Brushy Creek down to the Williamson/Milam County line, the North Concho River (O.C. Fisher Dam to Bell Street Dam) and the South Concho River (Lone Wolf Dam to Bell Street Dam). Generations Park, Nelson Park, Forest Park (Denton), Buck Lake, and Lost Maples Upper and Lower use a 5-fish cap that skips catch-and-release species and sets no minimum length; black bass there are catch-and-release. Lake Kyle is the same 5-fish cap, and largemouth bass, channel catfish and sunfish are the catch-and-release species.
Watch for
- A hybrid counts in the striped bass bag on most Texas water. It does not count in the white bass bag.
- On Lake Texoma you may not cull striped bass or hybrids. Once a fish is kept, it stays kept.
- We checked all 104 water pages linked from TPWD's exceptions list on Nov. 4, 2026. 79 restate the statewide 5 fish and 18 inches. Four state a different striped bass rule (Texoma, Toledo Bend, the Sabine River below Toledo Bend, and the Trinity below Lake Livingston). The rest are the small-water caps above, or pages that never name striped bass.
- Abilene State Park Lake lists other species and does not mention striped bass. The state park pages and the 'sections of rivers within state parks' page change gear or the license, not the striped bass bag. We did not read a missing row as 'no limit.'
- Before leaving or approaching any public fresh water, drain the water from your boat and its onboard receptacles, livewells included (a zebra mussel rule).
- Exceptions can be added mid-year. Look up the lake before you keep a fish.
