Indiana muskellunge (and tiger muskellunge) limits

Indiana lets you keep one muskellunge or one tiger muskellunge a day, not one of each, and it must be at least 36 inches long. Three Kosciusko County lakes (Backwater, Kiser and Webster) raise the minimum to 44 inches. On the main stem of the Ohio River the shared rule is two a day, muskie and tiger muskie combined, at 30 inches or longer.

Watch for

  • The statewide limit is one fish, whichever of the two it is: you cannot keep a muskie and a tiger muskie on the same day away from the Ohio River.
  • Fishing from the Ohio River bank, you follow the rules of the state you are standing in. Within 200 yards below an Ohio River dam you may fish only with a pole or hand line.
  • Indiana DNR will help identify a fish from a photo: the guide gives [email protected] and on.IN.gov/fish-id.
  • These figures come from the 2026-2027 guide, which runs to March 31, 2027. We will re-check this page when the 2027-2028 guide is out.
